The purposes of this study were to examine theory of mind(ToM) deficits in schizophrenics, and the relations between their ToM and interpersonal functioning. Participants included 79 schizophrenic patients and 40 normal adults matched for patients¡¯ age and education levels. All participants were examined fuax-pas task, similarities subtest and digit span subtest in Korean - Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale. Schizophrenic patients were assessed their interpersonal functioning. As a result, schizophrenic patients except remitted patients showed significantly lower performance than normal controls in faux-pas task. However, remitted patients were more impaired than normal controls in the ability to infer other¡¯s intention. Interpersonal functioning of schizophrenic patients were significantly explained by ability to understand other¡¯s feeling, negative symptoms, and positive symptoms. It suggests that rehabilitation programs for understanding other¡¯s feeling can improve the interpersonal functioning of schizophrenic patients.
